Just checking through this thread and wanted to add my two cents. I'm a SUPER heavy international travelor (already at my 25/50 by March and still at least twice that much to do). At the persuassion of friends, I made the switch to SPG two years ago and have, overall, been VERY pleased with the program, upgrades, lounge access etc. In addition, the majority of the properties have been wonderful.
The Sheraton Singapore is the exception of all exceptions though. I can't tell you how many times I've stayed there-many to say the least. Not once have I ever received an upgrade. Bad luck and timing perhaps. More alarming though, is the complete lack of customer service. I stayed, for what I hope will be my last time, in March. I arrived around 8:30 p.m....not too crazy late by any stretch, and was horrified when the doorman/porter stood and watched as I (a not-so-strong female) had to unload two extremely large and heavy suitcases out of the trunk of my taxi by myself(taxi driver was quite frail looking, so I asked him not to help). He then walked away, leaving me to negotiate the doors to get in. Unfortunately, this was not an isolate incident. On two of my three most recent visits prior to then-same situation!
From there, it's really just downhill. Poor customer service at check in and check out, completely outdated rooms, the list goes on.
My last stay in Singapore was just a couple of weeks later and I stayed instead at the St. Regis. WOW-what a difference. Yes it's costly, but they do occassionally have good deals.
With Singapore being such a hub of international business, it's a true shame that the Sheraton here is as bad as it is. This hotel does absolutely no justice to the otherwise fine Sheraton product. I hope those trying a Sheraton for the first time don't chose this one or don't let this one sour their impression.
