What criteria would you use to define good? I'm a little picky myself, but am satisfied with something from most of the major coffee chains. Independents are found in quite a number of small cities and towns in the US. Many roast their own beans and produce a decent product. Their used to be a website where you could search for independent coffee shops but I don't recall the name - something like anythingbutstarbucks.com
