They didn't question me either time that I brought my iPhone in for physical repairs: once for a screen replacement and once for a silence/muting button replacement. The latter occurred as a result of dropping the device.
I needed to have my iPhone headset replaced because the button stopped working; even though the problem was with the headset they checked the iPhone - and when they saw it was jailbroken they went ahead and gave me a new headset even though I was told I'd technically violated the warranty by jailbreaking.
I'm not saying you'll never get Apple to service something you dropped, I'm just saying you shouldn't count on it.
