Why? Because the seat designer apparently made the pin length a smidgen too long - most plugs do not have pins long enough to reach the electrical source.
i never ever had a problem with any of my laptops or other gadgets i wanted to plug in. none the less, it has nothing to do with the length of the prongs but the little black switch that is in the middle. this has to be pushed in by the plug otherwise it wont work. so some power supplies may need the adaptor which is available from the crew at all flights...
