jsmeeker: No denying your math on the LAX-DFW trip. Even at .51/mi x 2470 mi (RT) AAirpass prices at $1,259.70. AAirpass does do better on short/medium business routes, such as ORD-LGA for unrestricted fares. It breaks down on longer trips, especially to Hawaii. It is also better when used for
Premium class on the coast-to-coast routes.

But that is, IMO, because the full fares on these routes are seriously outrageous. All airlines push the envelope on soaking business travellers, and nobody does it better than AA. Even in pricing the AAirpass. It is my belief that they'd sell lots more of these things, and raise more revenue, if they lowered the price back to, say $.40/mile even.
