CO can issue your onward boarding passes for the LH flight. If you are traveling Business Class, you can get a preassigned seat on LH intra-Europe. If in Coach, you won't get one until check-in, but you can ring up LH Reservations now to note a generic preference, and their seat allocation computer generally comes through at the time of check-in.
This must be new. I have not been able to get CO to issue my onward boarding passes for LH yet, I usually just have to go to the LH gate and get them to give me one.
