Oudtshoorn is one of my favourite places I've visited in the world. There are the Cango caves to visit, the Cango wildlife park (where you can stroke cheetahs), the ostrich farms (where you can ride an ostrich and help with the hatchings).
Of course, then there is ostrich omelette, ostrich steak, ostrich sausages
The inland route is also great - far less boring than N2.
