Somewhat of an aside but AA's problems with slots for their new ORD/PEK service have nothing to do with tarmac delays. Even at slot controlled international airports delayed flights are treated equally regardless of how new they are to the market.
What's more interesting about the AA situation is that they've known about the problem for a long time and chose not to announce the problem publicly until a week before service was to begin.
And as AA well knows new entry into slot controlled airports (e.g. JFK, ORD, NRT & LHR) usually requires costly slot trades to get the more optinal arrival/departure slot pairs.
/agree. I am very surprised that they were selling tickets up to slow close to flight dates on a schedule that hadn't been approved. Seems like were advertising and selling a product that they did not have a reasonable expectation of being able to deliver. Not that they couldn't have hoped, but they should have notified passengers at the time of booking that the advertised times were subject to approval...who knows, maybe they did.
