In the
past, AA has extended expiring VIPOW's for 1 month. That's a hit-or-miss decided on a case-by-case basis, not a guaranteed benefit.
AA also allowed trade in of the old VIP2 awards for VIPOW's, but that's because VIP2's allowed you to book up to 330 days ahead of flight. It was also not capacity controlled. So AA had ample incentive to get those VIP2's off the market instead of letting you use them.
AA has no incentive to extend/exchange VIPOW's other than goodwill. If you have expiring VIPOW's and can't use them, make a gift of them to someone.
