Say I forgot to formally check out for the room but I did leave and clear the room before the scheduled check-out time. Do I get billed anything extra for forgetting to do this? Or does the hotel just process the formalities according to what was agreed at check in?

No, I didn't use any room service, movies, minibar, parking, etc. So nothing extra I would have to pay for.
