Problems with Schwab & TD Bank ATM Reimbursements
Before my recent trip to Asia, I opened a Schwab account and a TD Bank account to take advantage of no-fee ATM transactions and reimbursements for third-party ATM fees.
Neither TD Bank nor Schwab automatically credited third-party ATM fees. When I called customer service after getting back to the U.S., I was told that the only way I would be reimbursed would be if I could provide them ATM slips that showed what the transaction fees were. However, most the slips I have do not say the amount of the ATM fees -- that information was written on the ATM machines but not on the slips.
This seems like a silly excuse because they could easily determine the amount of foreign currency I was given, the applicable exchange rate, and the USD I was charged. Based on this information, they could easily compute the third-party ATM fee, but they do not do this. They also do not indicate on my statement what the applicable exchange rate was for each transaction -- they only say what the final charge was in USD, so I cannot do the calculation myself.
As it stands, it looks like I will not be reimbursed for third-party ATM fees as promised. Has anyone else had this problem with either TD Bank or Schwab?
