Saturday is generally a working day in most of India, Pune included. India has a huge list of national holidays compared to what I am used to in the US and those are not considered working days in India.
I generally have not had any problem making bookings 3 days in advance of travel (as a BD Gold) regardless of day of the week, but then sometimes I do get some resistance about the calculation of the 3 days in advance and have to ask them to ask a supervisor in order to get my way.
