It's easy to see why when a segment early in the day is late thousand of people are inconvenienced.
It's also interesting to see how coordinating schedules and maintenance is so complex: the plane is flying empty (on a ferry flight) from ORD to MEX, probably to swap it with a similar MD-80 in need of scheduled maintenance. Not a cheap thing to do!
