Yeah, but LACSA is the only airline that flies non-stop between LAX-SJO, so competition is not fierce on this route... O/D should be good out of LAX and AS will get many OW and ST members as well as the "regular folks"....
There was only one airline flying SEA-CUN nonstop. Oddly enough, lack of fierce competition apparently didn't make that route profitable.
I tend to think AS isn't going to expand in MX until their HI growth is done.
What I'd love to see (and I know there are threads galore already) is some expanded service on AS metal (ex-PDX) to the cities that this business traveler tends to go to (Bay Area mainly).
PDX-ORD and one-stop PDX-SJC in the past year, and scads of promotions in PDX. I don't think PDX is doing making out too badly (and I bet there's more where that came from- I wonder if they could make PDX-EWR work now that CO has gone "FU" to the AS-CO partnership).
Yes, I know, you're flying a Q400 to the Bay Area a lot (though the PDX-AUS one stop is a AS plane stopping in SJC, so you have that). Well, against WN, it's pretty tough to make a 737 with F seats work for < 2 hour flights- people simply don't want to pay much of a premium for a 90 minute flight, so you basically give F away to elites and add costs/relinquish revenue WN doesn't have to.
