MCO-PDX can be very cheap (low 200s) or very expensive (600s+), rarely is it inbetween. There are only a few flights each day that work (IIRC 2x ATL-PDX & 2x SLC-MCO, you could also use LAX or JFK but those aren't great connecting options).

Call in and see your luck.

Also, it's towards the end of the summer and MCO is packed... it's a peak time. You might have run into the fact that the saver seats are gone. How are they, price wise, if you wanted to buy them with cash.
