Not sure people try and justify leaving them on. Alot of people forget I would suggest - usually FF's who never really listen to the briefing announcements anyway.

As for me - I do switch mine off, but always feel if they were even minutely dangerous they would have long ago been confiscated prior to boarding, their batteries removed and placed under lock and key in the cabin until arrival when each pax could reclaim at the gate.

The "mobiles are dangerous and must be switched off" directive went the way of the volcanic ash / SARS / swine flu etc etc 'elf-and-safety brigade with the "we are all doomed" messages - but long ago.

No wonder these "we are all doomed - this is very dangerous" type announcements get treated with such derision now. They have cried wolf too many times now
