I've stayed at Ubud Hanging Gardens and I really liked it (though I was disappointed that the hotel did not have a fitness center). The views across the valley from most of the rooms is stunning, day and night (temple across the valley is lit up at night). You'll get loads of privacy here, and a private plunge pool too. UHG is part of Orient Express and David O is a part of the O-E's Bellini club. I'm not sure what the benefits are.

I stayed at FS Sayan a few months ago and I assure you that the rooms do not look old fashioned. When I was there, an employee told me that the rooms were going through a soft renovation, so I guess that means new blankets, bed sheets, sofa cushion and pillows.
My limited budget prevents me from staying at Amanresorts. But I am confident that you would not be disappointed by FS Sayan. They are offering a third or fourth night free promotion. The lowest category will offer much more privacy and space than the one-bedroom suite at the Chedi. Please ask MarshKing or DavidO for more info. They are FS experts.
I'm going back for my honeymoon in a couple of months. We booked the riverfront villa. I'm so excited.
