While reading this thread I've been shocked and horrified, firstly at the alledged actions of security and secondly at the reactions of the passengers.
I agree with pax complaints about going through pills and personal effects. Security is there to stop guns, knives and other possible weapons being taken onboard. They should go about their job in an efficient and courteous manner, not pretend they are drug enforcement or customs officers.
I don't agree with pax saying that the should be exempt because they are status flyers, regular flyers or non-rev or whatever. Random is supposed to be random!
I'm EXP and got searched boarding an international flight at Miami a couple of weekends ago. The girl checking was quite friendly and she asked me about what it was it was like in London. True, I found her examination of the bag rough. The best examiners I have found are in Australia who put things back the way they found them.
Regular travellers should know the routine by now. My Tips: I carry a small clear plastic bag so that all my metalic objects can go in and out of my pockets easily and quickly. As much as possible goes in my checked luggage rather than carry-on. Always allow sufficient time to check in, be screened and get to the gate.
Times have changed. Everyone has to play their part in making things easier and safer for themselves. Most of all, just smile.
