It wouldn't surprise me if you probably aren't reading it wrong.... I had some major problems last week just trying to check in on a re-issue at Tampa. It took the agent at least 35-40 minutes to try to figure out how to do my ticket. Once he did, he gave me copies of all of the tickets "in case I had problems checking in coming back".
It almost sounds to me that she checked in at the counter, got her luggage checked, but when she got to the gate, the system was looking for another ticket number.
