I put out the offer yesterday on YVR-YYZ for two of us. AC030 my original flight was canceled, then a few days a ago moved to a later flight, then at my request back to AC048 at the same time a AC030. AC048 was then downgraded from an A330 to A321, nominally to save the A330 for a couple of delayed Asia flight. Needless to say even with those delays the flight was very oversold.

The agent took my offer, but was only willing to give me $200 or confirmed business on next available flight. She insisted it was one or the other, knowing AC152 was a wide body (the swapped A330) and the J class was going to be worth it, I negotiated for a J booking class for the extra 1000 status miles and she agreed.

Reading this, I wonder if I should have held out for more. However, I didn't really get a sense of urgency on the agent's part. Despite the degree of oversell, didn't seem like she was motivated to move us.
