So a couple things regarding 3-3-3:

1) As several people have pointed out, this has been generally known for MONTHS. This should not be a surprise to any regular visitor to FT -- I'm not sure what is up with the complaining now. It's not like UA is going to change it -- this isnt a catering decision or something that is easily modified.

2) By and large 3-3-3 is the worldwide standard on the 777. Other than a couple holdouts, the vast majority of international carriers use 3-3-3. For those that are constantly clamoring for UA to be competitive with 'world class' carriers ... this is the standard.

3) Doing most of my travel alone as a business traveler, I fail to see the major problem here. I would generally chose the aisles of either side row on the legacy 777, noting that the window pax would need to climb over me to get up. In the new config, I can chose the center section aisles and note that the center pax only has a 50% chance of climbing over me -- a definite improvement. Yes, it is less optimal for couples traveling together who have no shot of an upgrade and would book early enough to nab the 2 section, but that is a very small subset of the (apparantly vocal) population. For those who would otherwise be stuck in the 5 accross row, the 3-3-3 config makes many more acceptible seats.
