When you first think of it, it makes sense that countries should control their own airspaces but is it really? EU is an economic zone and civil airplanes are just part of the infrastructure.
What we have seen this last week is a major failure. It has cost huge amounts of money and some airlines will probably not recover unless they get financial support from taxpayers.
The Euro airspace is small and should be controlled by a small number or single authority. National pride isn't worth the extra cost of the existing decentralisation. It doesn't exclude the option for countries to override decisions made by this "central" control.
