Mod speak on: In the interest of maintaining and extending the aloha spirit, I have deleted two posts in order to get back on topic and to help welcome the op to the islands. I know folks here will be happy to assist. I would also suggest, RainbowSprinkles, that there is lots of wisdom here and if you haven't already done so, you can probably narrow down some questions with a search of past thoughts on or related to the topic

I'm looking for well known reliable companies, with good rates, pick up preferably from Kahului Airport in Maui and Keahole Airport on the Big Island. As I'm coming from overseas, I'm not sure what companies are popular in the US.
Both at KOA and OGG, all the rental car companies are very short shuttle ride from the terminal.
The "majors" in the United States (and at OGG/KOA) include:
Hertz
Budget
Alamo
Avis
National
Enterprise
Dollar
Any of these are reliable.
To play around with rates, spend some time in the rental car forums on FlyerTalk where all of them have coupons/discounts master threads.
I'm particularly looking for a Jeep with removable top.
Take the usual precautions and leave nothing of value in the car. In fact, leave the car unlocked.
There are some places no rental car should be driven (the most important one being the Waipio Valley).
