I've found the easiest way to fix this is to not let the site auto fill the city. So, type PDX instead of Portland. When you type PDX and autofill tries to complete it, hit escape, and just the airport codes will be in there. Works pretty well for me. Especially with SAN--the website keeps telling me I really mean San Angelo TX and not San Diego.
I use this technique as well.
One of my favorite features of the WN site is how you can have save multiple frequent trips in a drop down menu right at the top of the reservation page, as opposed to AS where you get one favorite origin and three destinations that you have to click on each time. How hard would it be to copy this feature?
