It's happened to me once years ago--when the bag didn't show I went towards the luggage office and noticed our bags sitting out in front of it. There had been two flights that had gone while we were waiting. (The first wasn't an option due to just missing the baggage check window, the second had no seats, we flew on our scheduled fight.)
