If the early arrival was such that the total flight time was less than scheduled, you have a valid complaint. If you paid for 3 hours of butt-in-seat air time and they only gave you 2-1/2 hours, they short changed you and owe you compensation. They're trying to pull a fast one; they save money at your expense.
