Can't say that I am overly fussed by the lack of upgrades. In many accor properties (standard issue novotels in France, for instance), it is not as if there is much to upgrade to anyway. What would be more likely for me to direct more of my money towards them are:
1) complimentary breakfast for elites (as per Hilton hhonors);
2) usability of vouchers on all rates rather than just flex ones.
