$270 China roaming charge

So...

If you sign up for a temporary Verizon data roaming plan, set the end date for 2-3 days AFTER the trip ends. Here's why:

I took a trip to China about three weeks ago. Before I left, I called Verizon and enabled data roaming for my Droid. At $2 per day for unlimited data, it's a steal. Interestingly, there's no plan for voice: calls are $1.99 per minute. I just used Skype (via tethered PDAnet).

Anyway, I purchased data roaming for the exact days of the trip. Turns out this was a mistake, and I was hit with $270 of roaming for about 14 megabytes metered on (or a day after) the end of the trip. They couldn't actually tell me when the charges hit. But the CSR explained that sometimes the actual charges trickle in, and so they hit on a day (or three) after the trip actually ends! Wish I had spoken to her when I signed up for the roaming in the first place...

The good news was that they forgave the entire charge and I paid for a couple of days extra roaming.
