I am guessing the idea of asking "where are you going?" is like the stupid and misguided "did you pack your own bag question?" of the past. The TSA somehow thinks a terrorist will blurt out, "To cause havoc and destruction in the skies upon those that have angered me in some way" rather than "Little Rock, Arkansas." Honestly, those looking to do harm will be well coached and know every last detail of their cover story. It is the Kettle family with 4 kids running around and tons of carryon or the busy business traveller on their 6th flight of the week that will get it wrong, not know, or even care.

I stopped answering long ago even to the nice TSOs because it can only lead to a world of hurt. When I was more stupid, I was once asked where I was going, I said "Dallas" which where I usually connect. This time I was booked through Chicago. Of course, I got the immediate, "You don't know where you're going?" Yes, I know my final destination and do not always look closely at my connecting airport. This led to, "I find it strange that you are not sure of your intentions." I told him that it was my 5th flight of the week, have two more flight coming up, only slept 3 hours, haven't had coffee and at this point, I didn't give a flying hoot whether I was connecting through DFW, ORD, LHR, NRT, or ZWD in Antarctica. I know exactly where I was going to which he demanded my other boarding pass. Not wanting to be delayed further I handed over my other BP and got the questions. What is your final destination? Why are you going there? blah blah.... screw that. No more answers not even to those that might be making small talk. It'll just lead to being the next useless statistic in Blogger Bob's weekly puppy post.
