US Airways calls off merger talks with United


SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- US Airways Group Inc. said Thursday it has broken off merger talks with United Airlines parent UAL Corp.

"We have recently held discussions with United Airlines regarding a possible combination between our two airlines," US Airways Chairman and Chief Executive Doug Parker said in a statement. "After an extensive review and careful consideration, our board of directors has decided to discontinue those discussions.
