I booked a stay for my parents at HI Phuket last year and just gave my father my platinum card and he was upgraded and the points posted no problem.
Obviously if it is indeed you father and not step afther you shouldn't have any problems unless some eagled eye spots the different address on the credit card they use as a gaurantee.
