thanks for the reply's already.
I 'll try to add a little more info here.
No, I don't want to carry a lot of cash around.
for starters its unsafe.
Whenever I can and for larger purchases I will
use a capital one credit card that I have.
The only time cap one ever comes in handy!
I'm not a fan but since they have the no foreign transaction
fees it's THE card for traveling abroad.
So any time I can pay for a souvenir or dinner or something
with my American credit card I will.
But I know I'm still going to need a decent amount
of cash for many things. Any public transportation/cab rides,
maybe entrance to some tourism things, smaller meals/snacks,
tolls on the highways, or any time I find my American card is not
accepted or something.
So no, I don't want to withdraw thousands of euros
but I would like to have a couple hundred on me at all
times in case anything comes up, emergency cab ride
or if a card would be declined, etc.
So that's why for getting the cash I was unsure.
No I unfortunately do not have a debt card that waves
the ATM fee's and I believe they charge a 1 or 2% foreign
fee on top of that. (I have 5/3 bank)
I'm not going to switch banks or open up a new
account right now just for this 1 trip. I really
don't travel out of the country much. Once or twice a year only.
I gather that the consensus is that you'll get a better rate
going the debt card route. However with all the fee's incurred
I get the feeling that maybe it evens out ?
In fact would it be safe to say that honestly I'm going to pay
about the same exchanging cash at the airport vs using an ATM ??
So just go with either ?? Or does debt still come out ahead even
with some fee's attached ?
