Yep, I've missed many a Friday morning flight in my time due to me being an idiot and have never been charged a fee to be rebooked. Like the OP, I always just start my interaction with them by saying "I'm an idiot and I missed my flight". So far so good, although I do miss fewer flights these days.
You mention Friday morning. Re-booked (with no fee) for the same day or next day? You're a PM. Were you a PM then? A PM can miss a flight and re-book with no fee - Same Day Confirmed. You needn't provide a reason nor a mea culpa. I'm glad you fessed up and admitted you were responsible for missing your flight. However the rep did you no special favor. You would also have been re-booked without fees if you showed up and said....
"I had a hot babe next to me this morning and wanted one more round. We still had some blow left and I didn't want to waste any. I fully intended to miss my flight and even stopped along the way to check out a KKK rally. Then I bought some porn at the airport 'bookstore'. Being hopped up on coke I actually made it in time for my scheduled flight so I waited outside until that flight closed. I'll take my fee-free re-booking now, thank you."
