I have never been upgraded. I was given access to the lounge at the Grovesnor house, which was very nice.
But no upgrades. Never....
Upgrades at Springhills are essentially non-existent. Upgrades at Courtyards would be either corner or view rooms, or the few Courtyards which have a few suites, not all CY have suites, and those that do generally only have a handfull of those.
I do not know how often you actually stay at full service Marriott and Renaissance hotels and resorts, or what your experiences have been, but I am going to take a wild guess that you have been upgraded without even realizing it. You might want to get into the habit of asking about upgrades at check in, if for no other reason so that the desk staff will then have to inform you that you have or have not already been upgraded.
I am sorry to have to ask you this, but how do you know that you have never been upgraded, and also, to you, what would constitute an upgrade?
