They have been really helpful about this for me. I had to do a similar thing earlier this year and basically they did this for me. They took the value of my ticket, which was $900, and then let me book onto any other flight I needed without any advanced purchasing or class restrictions. So for instance If I booked a T fare originally and needed to change it to a flight last minute that once had a T fare basis at a cheaper rate, they would let me book into that even if only Y/B/M or something higher was available, but at the T prices. Hope that makes sense!

I had to do this around the holidays, and the new flight was priced out cheaper then the old, they even gave me a voucher for the difference.

It was quite a class act, and they were super helpful, got it taken care of right away, and all they asked was for my relationship to the deceased and the phone number of the hospital or funeral home. Very respectful, very understanding and generous and was the reason that the next few flights I needed to take I took Delta, even if they were a bit more expensive.
