Good luck with that -- both times I wanted to fly Delta to a funeral, I already had tickets to the same destination. Delta wanted $5-600 just to get me there a few hours earlier. I chose to help NW get some miles off their books rather than be gouged by Delta.

I'm sorry for the OP's loss, but the simple truth is that Delta is unlikely to care.
