Sorry for your loss. A co-worker just had this and attempted to work with Delta. The cost for the last minute tickets for the family was more 3x more expensive than driving from ATL to DTW.

As you have a ticket already and are a PM, call in and hopefully you get a compasionate agent to make the change for you.
