Death in the family -- how flexible is Delta?

I just had a death in the family and need to attend services on Friday at 4pm. The problem is I have an employer-paid ticket for Friday for BOI-CLE and Tuesday CLE-BOI for work (I don't really _need_ to be there until sat. night however).

I have two problems

1) I need to go to Chicago on Friday
2) I do not want to "cost" my employer $500-1000 to reissue their ticket, as I still need to be there for work after the services.

Will Delta offer any flexability in this matter? I can do one of two things

1) I'd prefer they change the first leg of the trip to Chicago and be done with it, but I can't re-rate the entire ticket due to the extreme cost differences.
2) Go to Cleveland on Thursday and drive to chicago...
3) I'd be willing to buy a one-way to Chicago with miles, and drive to Cleveland, if they would throw away the first leg and not cancel out the itenary.

Just some ideas. What's the best way to make this work, or am I more or less stuck?

I am PM if it matters.
