Just a tip for future reference when you phone the AT&T service. When you are prompted to give your billing details and the voice robot asks you to say "calling card, credit card, collect, or operator" - always say "operator" instead of "collect."

If you say "collect," and the robot gets anything at the other end of the line besides "hello" (for example, if the company has a recorded message stating "we accept collect calls" or even if a live person answers but says "Amercian Express, may I help you"), the robot cannot understand it and will say something like "Caller, we appear to have reached a recording, please hang up and try again," and will disconnect you.

If you say "Operator" you will get a live operator who can put through the call collect and hear that the receiving party will accept the collect call.

I've had to do it this way for years when trying to make a collect call to AmEx or other companies in the U.S. using the AT&T international dialing service from Europe.
