I once paid something like $10,000 for long haul J seat, only to be told I had no choice because all the other selections were already taken. I was E at the time. I hit SE a few weeks later.

On the other hand, I have rarely had a meal on AC I enjoyed, even when I had first choice. One exception was some fish dish I had earlier year enroute to Australia from YVR.
