Once doors are closed - these 'activities' rarely happen in my view irrespective of airlines or country. As per the protocol, the captain or the purser needs to be aware of any movements inside the deck.

Also the steward or stewardess themselves do not their flying schedule much earlier in advance to help a passenger who has booked on a flight that he or she is to help someone get a cabin upgrade ;-)

Am inflight manager at Kingfisher got sacked after she moved her parents from Y to J after doors closing. Someone staff grassed her up. The airlines in India are full of grasses and bum lickers especially in an female dominated industry. Girls will hold a grudge for ever while blokes will have a pint at the end of the day with the person they had bust up with.

Upgrades happen at all the airlines. When i used to travel with my £100 lhr-bom ZED fare, i used to call my friend whose father was a dispatcher at BA. Now at BA, dispatchers are GOD and have the final say regarding upgrades. I used to regularly get upper deck CW and twice i scored F.
