From what I've read on these boards, the posting is done by a hotel staff, usually in the front office.

I once had a stay where I used a BOGO and a Rewards Night, and the hotel mistakenly credited the Rewards Night points back to my account. Even though I didn't receive points for one of the qualifying nights when I should have, I was about 23000 points richer so I kept mum about it.
