PSAC STRIKE AT LBPIA

GTAA STATUS UPDATE #6: ISSUED 2:00 p.m. OCTOBER 14, 1998

TORONTO - The general public experienced delays of up to an hour during the peak period this morning as striking members of the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) blocked public entrances to parking facilities at the airport's terminals.

"The targeting of members of the public by PSAC is totally inappropriate," says Steve Shaw, Greater Toronto Airports Authority (GTAA) Vice-President, Strategic Planning. "We are disappointed that our employees, who normally are responsible for passenger safety and convenience, have taken this course of action. We would have hoped they would have taken a professional approach more in keeping with their training and responsibilities."
