Europe/US flt: Can I negociate a renouncement deal on an overbooked flt?

I was told that the ash cloud will most likely clear up by Tuesday or Wednesday. It is therefore very possible that our flight on Thursday from Zurich to Philadelphia will be the first to fly for 6 days and will be not only full but people will be desperate to get on it.

We are traveling economy with a family of four with a 1 and a 5 year old whereby the bassinet has been reserved for us. We would consider changing our travel dates if the benefits were attractive enough.

Is there any precedent for making an individual deal with an airline (USAir in our case) for renouncing our seats on that flight for, for example, business class on a later or different flight/itinerary or cash for taking a later flight/different itinerary? If so how would you recommend going about making an offer? Whom would you contact?

At this point USAir has only announced a no penalty itinerary change option for our flight, which is not interesting for us.

Thanks,

S
