What an apropos thread. I live near IAD and was just thinking about this very topic while I was watching the local news tonight, which showed several British families waiting it out @ IAD. One pax said BA was providing him with 2 nights in a hotel then he & his wife would be on their own. Nice of BA considering the situation is way beyond anyone's control (except maybe for ...). The reporter said airline staff was spending most of their time helping passengers find cheaper hotels.
Then there was another man with four teenage daughters hanging out in the lobby - at least they have their PS2 games for amusement because the IAD lobby is a big yawn for shopping & dining. Just sayin'

So I did think about this for a second. And yes, I would consider sharing my apt if I either knew the person(s) or if they were a friend of a friend. Although my place certainly isn't big enough for a family of teenagers.

Someone else posted earlier about how the airlines should be left to deal with the stranded pax. Fair enough ... but how many times have I popped over to Europe on a dime for a weekend (aka MR) without much of a cash / credit reserve? Way too many. Had some fun times living on the edge, but looking back I was not very smart. Loads of trips where on the last day of I'd be headed to the airport mulling over what I could buy at duty free with my "last $50". Hah! I've extremely been lucky -- knock on wood -- not to have gotten stranded like this. (Wow - I must be getting old if this is only starting to spook me now)
