After his second request to see it I again told him the same thing and noticed another employee with 3 stripes (manager) I guess and he had no clue if if was valid. He called someone on his phone and they didn't know either if my nexus card was valid. After this he headed to the other side of security to finally find the holy book of acceptable ID's. This took a good 15 minutes for him to get back. After he got back he said he was sorry for the delay and let me go. Before I left I told him maybe him being a manager should go read this book and maybe leave the book with the ID drones so they might look at it.
If any of you are wondering why I refused to show my passport is because I had the time to waste before my flight and was rather annoyed with the long line to just get to the ID checker.
bolding mine: the only thing i would have done differently is told the tso not to leave with my i/d and if the response was, "i need to check the holy book", i would reply "that's fine but please bring the torah here

and not the other way around". afaic, my i/d is an extension of my personal property and needs to remain in my sight during the entire screening process (primary and/or secondary)
