We are trained, and required, to take meal preferences FORWARD-AFT on EVEN number flights, and AFT-FORWARD on ODD number flights. However, all elements of service, beyond preferences, in premium cabins are to be delivered FORWARD-AFT. On the 767, in First Class, we do what is called a Modified Horseshoe...we start serving forward-aft on aircraft right (the HJ seats along with the D), and then come back around (NOT in front of the screen, but through the galley) to serve the AB seats. This does not mean much on the 767's with the reduced seating in First Class, but way back when, when it seated 24 passengers, there was definitely a method to our madness. I do not know how they handle the 767 Hawaiian configuration, but in any case, meal preferences are always supposed to be taken as described above.
