You can buy Ambassador status, and then use a RA cert, without ever staying even one night in a PC hotel.

As for money, I've never run into problems with Yuan. I have run into plenty of problems changing US Dollars, though. I had one travel agent in Indonesia who would only accept brand new USD of certain years. Never folded.

On one trip last year, I had to accompany one my suppliers to the bank to change some USD since they wouldn't accept ones that had much wear on them. All the bills were fine, of course, but it certainly was a hassle.

Even when I ask for nice bills, I still eliminate about 1/3 of them, from US banks. And again, this isn't only a China problem. I'd say that most countries I go to and change USD that I've got to be vigilant to have no tears or major markings on the bills.
