What she did was totally wrong, leave an unjustified action.

If this is in western countries, she should keep all your "fake" (or not) notes, take your full details - name, address, telephone number, etc, then report to the police.

And often, with foreigners involved, local police will appear pretty quick, and either you will be in deep trouble, or they apologise to you without reservation. Only because she is not professional enough, you would complain about it on FT.

This procedure is exactly what happened when two Chinese tourists visiting the largest shopping mall Lafaie (can't remember the spelling) in Paris few months ago. The only difference with that story is, the notes been proved later by the French police are real Euro notes not fake, and both of them been beaten by the security guards and the lady been forced half-naked in front of policeman.

In your case, the notes been accepted by HSBC in Hong Kong doesn't prove they are not fake notes. Simply because the fake RMB notes are everywhere and very high tech, the Hong Kong banks do not have the skills to figure them out.

Do you still think she's bothered you that much, comparing to the French version? If I am you, I would just forget about it, and use HK dollar in Guangzhou next time.
