Wow. I just landed at JFK after coming from Rome on AA235. I had tried to go to London last night and come back from there on the 8:30 AM because it looked better for the upgrade and or would gets home a bit early. But the BA flights were sold out from Rome in L so I couldn't do it. And my upgrade cleared on the Rome flight. I really lucked out? I would have been stuck.
